Welcome Roboteers!

What is a "Roboteer" you might ask? Well, a Roboteer is a person who designs, builds, studies, or controls robots.

Much like a "Rocketeer" except that a Rocketeer, as defined by The American Heritage Dictionary, is "a person who designs, builds, studies, or pilots rockets."

Robotics is an incredibly rewarding and educational hobby for both amateurs and professionals! It is one of the fastest growing hobbies and it can be done by individuals, teams, men or women. Robot building involves the use of many skills, including: design, electronics, mechanics, metal working, machinist, pneumatics, programming, physics and mathematics. If you don't have these skills yet, don't worry, you will begin to acquire them as you learn to build your first robotic creation.

Below you will find links to some of my favorite robotics web sites to help get you started. If you feel confident then jump right in, otherwise you may want to consider joining a robotics club, reading some robotics books, or participating in an educational robotics class. I would recommend younger roboteers find an adult mentor to help supervise and guide them on the creation of their first robot.

Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics"

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
